New Webinar for Lent Begins Today, March 10
During Lent our webinar with the Crackers and Grape Juice posse will be based on Fleming Rutledge’s magisterial book, The Crucifixion: Understanding the Death of Jesus Christ. It is a big book, but an extraordinary one as well. You are welcome to participate whether you do the reading or not.
Discussion will focus on the section of the book, Part II: “The Biblical Motifs.” Other studies speak of “models” for framing the meaning of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Fleming opts for the term “motifs” to suggest something more fluid and less compartmentalized than discrete “models.”
The first two, under discussion on March 10, are “The Passover” and “The Exodus.” How do these motifs shape the presentation and understanding of The Crucifixion? If you have had questions about the meaning of the crucifixion and various ways it has been interpreted, this webinar should be of interest.
You can read along if you have, or get, the book. If not you can simply listen in to the discussion. There will be a brief synopsis of each motif as it is presented and considered.
