What's Tony Thinking

Keep Tony Thinking (and writing)

Share!

Some of you have graciously offered to support this publication and sent a contribution or two my way over the years. Others have asked “how can I support ‘What’s Tony Thinking’?”

Well, you are supporting it by being a reader! About 750 of you are subscribers. In an average month I have about 4,000 to 5,000 readers. Thanks for that. My blogs are regularly re-posted at the Seattle-based Post Alley and at Mockingbird.com.

There are some expenses involved. I use the Constant Contact platform. Like everyone else, they have raised their prices.

No pressure, I’m happy to have you read and participate for free. Totally. But if you want to make a financial contribution there are two ways you can do it.

One is by using the on-line operation, VENMO. It’s safe. There are no fees to you. You can send a donation via VENMO to me at Anthony-Robinson-07926. You don’t have to have a VENMO account to do this, but you may need to download their app (not sure about that). If you have a VENMO account it should be a slam-dunk.

The other method is the old school one, write a check. Do people still do that? Some do. We do. If that works for you, make it out to me, “Anthony B. Robinson” or “Tony Robinson.” Send it to our world headquarters in Ballard (a Seattle neighborhood), a.k.a. my home mailing address: 6006 Seaview Ave. N.W., Unit I, Seattle, WA 98107.

Another way to support this blog is by recommending it to others. Forward a post with a note saying “I like this, you might too!” Anyone who wishes to receive posts in their personal email as they appear can get that by clicking on the “Subscribe” button at the top right hand side of the homepage and completing the very simple form. I never share your email/ info with any other publications, advertisers, etc.

As readers know, I write about all sorts of topics — really whatever interests, moves, excites or irritates me — social trends, books, family and relationships, politics and culture. But there’s a continuing core of concern for the life of faith, the church, religion and theology, Scripture and the gospel. When I write about other cultural and political topics I often try to bring a theological or Christian perspective to what I have to say.

I like to think my take on things is crosses some of the usual left/ right, liberal/ conservative lines and polarities. Or, to use a different metaphor, is out of those often way too predictable boxes.

I’ve been writing all my life. I published my first letter to the editor in “The Northern Virginia Sun,” at age 10, an attack on the Byrd political machine, that ran Virginia, for supporting segregation. I’ve written for all sorts of publications, magazines and journals, and at times had regular a column in a newspaper or two. I’ve also, of course, written sermons (quite a few), pastoral musings, articles and books. I anticipate continuing to write as long as my thinker is still working. (Should you think my thinker stopped working long ago, well . . . )

As the great writer Ivan Doig once said, “I think with my fingertips.” Meaning he worked out what he thought by writing. Writing is part of my being. Thanks for letting me share my being in this way with you. It is a great privilege. Not just saying that — I really mean it.
